2018 Toyota Tundra Vs. 2018 Chevy Silverado: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Dec 15, 2017 11:45 AM

Any Long Islanders on the lookout for a new full–size pickup truck have probably found their lists narrowed down to two very popular options: The 2018 Toyota Tundra and the 2018 Chevy Silverado. A pickup needs to provide drivers with enough versatility to be useful in a variety of situations, but also be dependable enough to tackle any tough jobs you have. If you’ve got a lot of family or often haul stuff around, it’s imperative that a truck have enough functionality and space to accommodate both. The 2018 Tundra boasts all of these attributes and more, with the Silverado trailing behind considerably.

Of course, it’s not just about dependability when you’re shopping around for a new set of wheels – how the vehicle looks is just as important to some people. The Silverado and the Tundra sport very different silhouettes, and which one is for you depends entirely on your preferences. Ultimately, though, choosing your new pickup is about finding the perfect balance between utility and appearance, and that’s why having to choose from these two trucks can be really difficult.

To help you out in deciding whether the 2018 Tundra or the 2018 Silverado is the best fit for you, we here at Westbury Toyota have put together an in-depth comparison of these two pickups in order to make things easier for you. It’s our job to help connect drivers like you with a vehicle that perfectly suits your needs and we want to do everything we can to make sure it happens. So, if you’re on the fence about which truck is the one you need, keep on reading to find out why we support the 2018 Toyota Tundra – and why we think it has the edge over the 2018 Chevy Silverado.

What’s Under the Hood?

If you’re looking for a truck that’s got enough power to handle whatever you throw it’s way, you’re going to be interested in the specs. The new Silverado has a standard 4.3 liter (L) V6 engine that puts out a considerable 285 horsepower (hp) and 305 pound–feet (lb–ft) of torque. However, as the editorial staff at Autoblog states, the 2018 Tundra does better – it has a standard 5.7 L V8 that spits out an impressive 310 hp and 327 lb–ft of torque. Both these engines are paired with a six–speed automatic transmission and are available with either two or four wheel drive.

When it comes to towing potential, the Tundra has a step up with a maximum towing capacity of 6,800 pounds (lbs), with the Silverado following at 5,400 lbs. If your job or hobby has you frequently towing, the truck that’s most capable in this arena is hands down the new Tundra.

Interior Features

Everyone wants to ride in comfort, and to that end manufacturers are doing everything they can to ensure that every truck provides you with an interior that is roomy and cozy. Both the Silverado and the Tundra have interiors that surpass expectations, but the real winner here is the Tundra, as the editorial crew over at explains. This class-leading truck has more room for passengers, and if you upgrade to a premium trim level it’ll feel like you’re riding in top of the line luxury. The Tundra double cab offers up 2.4 inches of extra rear hip room in addition to 1.9 extra inches of front hip room in comparison to the same size cab in the Silverado. Certain Tundra trim levels also provide you with extra, innovative storage solutions, like under seat storage and a space to keep your laptop in the center console.

Cargo Room

People kept busy with jobs or families often find themselves looking for additional storage space in their vehicles to haul people or cargo. Fortunately, this is an area that the new Tundra excels in by offering up a bigger cargo box at 66.3 cubic feet (with the double cab) compared to the Silverado’s 61 cubic feet. If you choose to go with the crew cab, the Tundra has 56.1 cubic feet, which is still more than what the Silverado’s crew cab gives you at 53.4 cubic feet. If you want a truck that has enough room in the box to haul whatever you need, the Tundra is clearly the top choice.

The Best Fit

Choosing a new pickup truck doesn’t have to be a chore, and that’s why we here at Westbury Toyota want to help you make the choice that will best suit your needs. It’s about more than picking the truck that looks the best (though we acknowledge appearance is a factor) – it’s about knowing what you require out of a vehicle and shopping around to find the one that checks off all those boxes on your list. Buying a new vehicle isn’t cheap – it’s an investment, and you want to make absolutely sure you’re going with the truck that gives you the most for your money.

At Westbury Toyota we might be a little biased, but at the end of the day the numbers and stats don’t lie. You’re not only getting more passenger and cargo room with the 2018 Toyota Tundra, you’re getting more power and better towing ability as well. This is the perfect work truck for a busy handyman but is also completely suitable for a busy family of five. When it all comes down to it, both the Silverado and the Tundra are top of their class. However, only one can be the best, and it should be clear by now to our friends here in Westbury and Long Island that the Tundra is the undisputed champ in the full-size pickup category.
