If you’ve spent any amount of time shopping around for a new compact car, you probably already know that it’s not going to be an easy decision. With so many good cars to choose from, how do you really narrow it down to a vehicle that’s going to suit you perfectly in every way? To help you out with that particular issue, we here at Westbury Toyota have put together a quick comparison of the top two compact cars of the year: The 2018 Toyota Yaris and the 2018 Nissan Versa. You can take a look at the way these two cars measure up in the important areas and hopefully that will help to you make an informed decision when the time comes to figure out the right vehicle for you and your family.
In this day and age, fuel economy is a factor that’s become important to many consumers. If you’re in the market for a car that delivers decent mileage, we’re happy to tell you that the Yaris comes out on top compared to the Versa. As the writers over at The Car Connection point out, the 2018 Yaris measures up very well: It gets you 30 miles per gallon (mpg) when driving in the city, 36 mpg driving on the highway, and 33 mpg combined. In comparison, the Versa only delivers 27 mpg in the city and 30 mpg combined. For those looking for a car that won’t break the bank in regard to fuel costs, the Yaris is definitely the way to go.
Having enough room to haul everything is another important factor to consider when car shopping, particularly if you have a family and/or pets. Most cars have ample cargo capacity and the Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris are no different. However, one definitely has more cargo room than the other, and that car is the Yaris.
The editorial staff from Cars.com points out that for passengers, the Yaris offers up 1.9 more inches of front hip room and 3.9 inches more of rear hip room than the Versa. In terms of cargo room, the Versa only supplies you with 14.9 cubic feet compared to the Yaris’ 15.3 cubic feet. In other words, the Yaris will give you more room for whatever it is you need to haul around on a daily basis, all while keeping you and your passengers comfy in its surprisingly spacious interior.
Nobody wants a car that’s unsafe, so it’s good news that both the Versa and the Yaris come outfitted with more than impressive safety features. However, the Yaris has some safety technology that the Versa lacks entirely, such as the Toyota Safety Sense C Forward Collision feature. This feature actually contains three different safety technologies: Automatic high beams, lane departure alert, and a pre-collision system. The Versa lacks any type of lane departure alerts or pre-collision technologies. Additionally, the Yaris also has more airbags than the Versa, notably the driver knee and driver and passenger cushion front airbags.
Both the 2018 Versa and 2018 Yaris have some very nice infotainment and entertainment technology. However, the Yaris offers Toyota’s Entune Audio suite, which includes:
If you want to own a car that gives you everything you could possibly need in entertainment and infotainment, the Yaris is the way to go.
At the end of the day, you need to go with the car that best suits your needs. As the staff of Westbury Toyota, we’re obviously going to be a little biased toward the Yaris, but when you consider the comparisons we’ve listed above, it’s pretty clear that the 2018 Yaris simply has more to offer drivers than the 2018 Versa does. If you’d like to learn more about the Yaris or maybe take it for a test drive, don’t hesitate to pay us a visit so we can get you more acquainted with the leading compact car in its class.
