With blackout packages being one of the most sought-after trends in the automotive market recently, it only makes sense that Toyota is adding the popular Nightshade Editions to the Corolla family in 2020. The Corolla sedan and hatchback will soon be available with Nightshade Edition looks, joining others in Toyota’s lineup with Nightshade packages including the Highlander, the Camry, the 4Runner, and the Sienna. Drivers interested in learning more about this much-awaited trim level for the Corolla need look no further – Westbury Toyota has put together a thorough overview of everything you need to know about the Corolla Nightshade Editions.
The Nightshade Edition of the Corolla sedan is the SE version with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), explains Sean Szymkowski of Road Show. In addition to some pretty impressive aesthetic additions, there are three color options available for the sedan Nightshade Edition: Classic Silver Metallic, Super White, and Black Sand Pearl. On top of these new colors, you’ll find the following blacked out exterior components:
In addition, the 18-inch alloy wheels are also blacked out, along with all the exterior badging ("Toyota," "Corolla," and "SE"). All of this makes for a striking appearance when paired with your color of choice, and it’s definitely a look that sets itself apart from the other Corolla sedan trim levels.
Like the sedan, the Nightshade Edition for the hatchback is also based on the SE trim and possesses the CVT. As Bruce Brown of Digital Trends points out, it also has the option for greater cargo space via no spare tire and a lowered cargo floor. In exchange for sacrificing the spare tire, owners will instead get an additional six cubic feet of storage space (for a grand total of 24 cubic feet total) and a tire repair kit.
Like the Nightshade Corolla sedan, the Nightshade hatchback has three color options: Midnight Black Metallic, Super White, and Classic Silver Metallic. The exterior badging and 18-inch alloy wheels are blacked out, and it shares all blacked out features with the sedan in addition to the headlamp inner frame, lower front and side rockers, mirror caps, factory and rear lower spoilers, and rear exhaust diffusers.
Other additional new features you’ll find in the 2020 Corolla Hatchback Nightshade Edition includes standard Android Auto along with a SiriusXM All Access Trial. A black roof option is also new to the hatchback in the coming year, and combined with all the other Nightshade aesthetics, it’s something that will make this hatchback stand apart from every other hatchback currently out there on the roads of Long Island.
The difference between the Nightshade Editions and other trim levels aren’t just about appearances. As Guillame Rivard of The Car Guide says, the Corolla SE with CVT boasts a 2.0-liter (L) engine capable of 169 horsepower (hp), LED headlights, heated front seats, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Drivers can also look forward to an eight-inch touchscreen (complete with Toyota Connected Services) and Smart Key access.
The Corolla hatchbacks and sedans are some of Toyota’s most popular vehicles for a number of good reasons, and these Nightshade Editions most certainly continue this tradition. In addition to the eye-catching blackout appearances, there’s also a considerable number of other extra features in these Nightshade Editions to consider.
