2021 Toyota Corolla Vs. 2021 Nissan Sentra: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Dec 4, 2020 9:00 AM

Finding the right car for you means checking off quite a few things on your own individual checklist. The competition in the four-door sedan department is fierce, which means that when it comes to selecting one that perfectly meets all your requirements, you might have to shop around. Fortunately, there are two very popular sedans that will undoubtedly catch your attention: The 2021 Toyota Corolla and the 2021 Nissan Sentra. Both of these cars provide the utmost in safety, comfort, and convenience, but which one is the best choice for you? To better help you make an informed decision, we here at Westbury Toyota have put together a thorough comparison of the two cars for you to look over.

What’s New in 2021 For These Cars?

The Corolla, which has long reigned as one of the top sedans available, has undergone a series of smaller changes for the 2021 version. You can expect to see the addition of Android Auto to the infotainment suite, as well as some extras added in safety features, namely extra airbags in the rear and rear cross-traffic alert. The engine start-stop feature is now also standard in the Corolla. Also new this year is the Apex limited edition, which provides drivers with improved handling and suspension and an overall sporty vibe.

For 2020, the Sentra underwent a complete redesign, so there aren’t many changes for the 2021 version. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard in every trim level, and on the SR trim you can expect to see a Wi-Fi hotspot along with Nissan Connect. In terms of appearance, the SR trim has a striking new color combination: Metallic Electric Blue with a black roof.

Features and Technology Overview

The Nissan Sentra is well-equipped in terms of technology, as it gives you access to a 7-inch touchscreen, a 4.2-inch digital display, and push-start. There are also USB and USB-C ports, and the mixture of Bluetooth Streaming Audio and a Bose Premium Audio System mean you can enjoy your favorite music or podcasts in the highest quality possible.

The 2021 Corolla also has a 7-inch touchscreen (available 8-inch upgrade) that is complete with the helpful trio: Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Remote Connect allows you to locate your car, start the engine, and more while using the Toyota app on your smartphone. The Corolla also comes with innovative lighting tech: The available Adaptive Front Lighting system (AFS) follows the front wheels while driving in order to ensure increased night visibility.

What to Expect Under the Hood

All three trim levels of the 2021 Nissan Sentra have a singular engine option: 2.0 liter (L) 4-cylinder paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It is capable of 149 horsepower (hp) and 146 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque.

The 2021 Toyota Corolla has two engine choices: a 2.0 L 4-cylinder DOHC with VVT that puts out 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque and a 1.8 L 4-Cylinder DOHC with VVT that gives 121 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque. The transmissions are either a Dynamic Shift CVT or an Electronically Controlled Variable Transmission (ECVT). The Corolla also has Normal, Power, Sport, and Eco driving modes, depending on what trim level you choose.

Impressive Safety Measures

Both of these cars provide drivers and passengers with the best available safety features. All 2021 Sentra trims come with Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 Suite, which includes automatic braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, and lane departure warning.

The 2021 Corolla offers Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 suite across all trim levels, which includes the following:

  • Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Radar Cruise Control
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Lane Departure Alert

Additional safety features for the Corolla include ten airbags, child-protector rear door locks, an engine immobilizer, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear-Traffic Alert.

Which One Is Right for Me?

As you can see, both of these sedans provide considerable amounts of technology, impressive performance specs, and top of the line safety. However, the 2021 Corolla clearly pulls ahead of the Sentra in terms of technology options, safety measures, and power and handling. If your interest has been piqued by our comparison in favor of the 2021 Toyota Corolla, please do not hesitate to give our Westbury Toyota staff a call.
