Sports car enthusiasts, buckle up: The 2021 Toyota Supra is about to blow your mind! Along with some new variants, this car will be getting some upgrades under the hood, as well as some aesthetic and tech additions. Considering the Supra debuted only a year ago, this is big news! There’s nothing about the newest version of this car that will not entice and excite even the choosiest of gearheads, which is why we here at Westbury Toyota have put together a quick and comprehensive overview of what you can expect from the 2021 Supra.
According to Toyota, there is no limit, which is why the 2021 GR Supra comes blazing onto the scene with a turbocharged 3.0 liter (L) inline-six engine that gets you 382 horsepower (hp), which is a 14 percent output increase over the previous Supra. What’s more, it’s gone from 365 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) to 368 lb.-ft of torque. These increases in horsepower and torque come from improvements made to the engine, which includes a brand new dual-branch manifold that has six ports instead of two, which streamlines heat management and airflow. There have also been adjustments to the design of the pistons, which results in a reduction of the engine’s compression ratio and in turn, prevents abnormal combustion. Despite the boost to power, the GR Supra 3.0 will be able to achieve an estimated 22 miles per gallon (mpg) city driving, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined.
According to Toyota’s projections, these tweaks to the engine will see a change in the zero to 60 miles per hour (mph) acceleration time, dropping it down from 4.1 seconds to 3.9. Carrying over from the 2020 Supra is the 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters to ensure the smoothest driving possible even at the highest speeds.
For the Supra launch, there were the Mk. V special and limited editions. For the 2021 Supra, there are only 1,000 brand new A91 special editions. The A91 will have the 3.0 L inline-six engine and will be available in one of two color options: Nocturnal or Refraction. Refraction is a color exclusive to the A91 and is also brand new to the Supra! In terms of exterior accents, you will have access to matte-black wheels, carbon fiber mirror caps, C-pillar graphics, and black carbon fiber lip spoiler. In the interior you will find luxe black Alcantara leather complete with sharp blue contrast, as well as a trunk mat and two key gloves, all of which is exclusive to the A91.
Another Supra trim, the Supra 2.0, is an impressive 200 lbs. lighter than the Supra 3.0, all while still keeping the perfect weight distribution. The weight reduction is due to changes such as single piston calipers (as opposed to four piston variants), smaller front brake rotors, and other changes, such as a standard four speaker system instead of 10. The Supra 2.0 also does not have the adaptive suspension and active differential found on the Supra 3.0.
New for the 2021 Supra line, and available only on the 2.0 and 3.0 trims, the impressive safety and technology package includes:
Anyone who opts for this package will clearly receive the utmost in safety, convenience, and useful tech features.
We hope that after reading all this, you are as excited for the next generation of the Supra as we are!
