2022 Toyota C-HR Vs. 2022 Nissan Kicks: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Apr 29, 2022 9:00 AM

Urban friendly crossovers are becoming more and more popular given how affordable, convenient, and stylish they are, and that means there is plenty to choose from for a discerning buyer. But which one of these trendy, eye-catching cars is the right one for you? To make that decision easier, our Westbury Toyota staff has put together a comprehensive overview of two of the crossover class’s best offerings: The 2022 Toyota C-HR and the 2022 Nissan Kicks. Both of these cars have the utmost in technology, style, and convenience, but our overview will shed a light on why the C-HR is truly the cream of the crop.

Striking Exterior Aesthetics

It is pretty clear from looking at them that both of these crossovers are among the most aesthetically appealing in their class. Both boast sharp, sleek, sporty angles that give them a contemporary urbane vibe, and both have a wide selection of exterior paint options to choose from.

The C-HR has something the Kicks lacks, however, in the form of the incredible Nightshade edition. In addition to black door handles, chin spoiler, and badges, the Nightshade edition also has a black roof and a black interior with gunmetal trim. In keeping with the other Nightshade Editions in the Toyota lineup, the C-HR Nightshade is the very image of hip urban sophistication. The option to add available 18-inch black alloy wheels and two-tone paint treatment to the other C-HR trims means you can customize it until it perfectly represents you.

Comfort, Convenience, and Technology

In terms of comfort, these two cars are evenly matched. The Nissan Kicks has Zero Gravity seats, while some trims of the C-HR have luxury leather-trimmed seats meant to cushion every contour of your body. The C-HR also has an 8-way adjustable power driver’s seat, an available soft-touch leather trimmed steering wheel, and a streamlined dashboard.

In terms of technology, these two crossovers are very evenly matched. Both have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, but the C-HR also has an 8-inch touchscreen that comes standard, as opposed to the Kicks, where the 8-inch touchscreen is available only as an upgrade.

In terms of convenient tech, the C-HR has plenty of other helpful features, such as an available SmartKey system and available auto-folding sideview mirrors. The C-HR’s available puddle lights are an innovative feature that work in tandem with the SmartKey: When you touch the door handle sensor, the power mirrors automatically fold out and illuminate the “C-HR” logo on the ground, which is a helpful tool when it is dark out or you are not quite sure where you parked in a crowded lot.

Mechanical and Performance Specs

While the 2022 Nissan Kicks has plenty of spunk for its size, the 2022 Toyota C-HR has a bit more get up and go. Where the Kicks has a 1.6 liter (L) 4-cylinder engine that puts out 122 horsepower (hp) and 114 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque, the C-HR boasts a 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine that gives drivers 144 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque. Both these cars are front-wheel drive (FWD) and handle great on urban streets, but the C-HR has three different drive modes that can really finetune its performance depending on weather and road conditions: Sport, Eco, and Normal.

Which One Is Right for Me?

As you can see, both of these crossovers check off a lot of boxes on the typical car-buying checklist. However, one offers more in multiple categories than the other, and that is the 2022 Toyota C-HR. It has more power, better convenience and tech features, and more going for it in terms of exterior appearance.
