2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Vs. 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Mar 18, 2022 9:00 AM

Affordable, efficient, and versatile: Hatchbacks have never been quite as popular as they are right now. The advantages of owning a hatchback are numerous and include better maneuverability and better fuel efficiency, with the latter being incredibly important given current world events. Two of the best hatchbacks, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback and the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback, are natural competitors and bring to the table everything you could possibly want in a hatchback – but which one is right for you? Our Westbury Toyota staff have written up a short, thorough comparison guide to prove once and for all that the Toyota Corolla Hatchback is truly in a league of its own.

Exterior Design

While both these hatchbacks sport a sleek, hip, energetic style, there is something about the Corolla’s bumper design and angled tail lens that really draws the eye. Keeping with Toyota’s signature look, the Corolla is all about curves and smooth angles, all of it culminating in a fun, urban aesthetic. There is a hint of a performance vehicle in its look, augmented by the low-profile tires that come with a larger rim size.

In terms of exterior color, the Corolla hatchback comes with eight solid shade options, as well as five dual-tone options. The Civic hatchback lacks any kind of dual tone options and is instead available with eight solid color options.

Interior Design, Comfort, and Convenience

The interior of the 2022 Corolla Hatchback was designed to deliver the optimum driving experience. The front dash has a minimalist layout, with most of the main functions centralized in the center touchscreen. The side pillars do not block the view and the design of the side windows gives drivers views that make it easy to navigate. The cabin is surprisingly roomy given the compact nature of the car.

In terms of style, the Corolla’s interior keeps up with its exterior with its premium piano-black accents, contrast stitching on doors and dash, and soft-touch materials. The available leather-trimmed seats elevate the driving experience to one of luxury. In comparison, the 2022 Civic Hatchback’s exterior is a bit simpler but also feels dated, and it also lacks the contrast stitching and accents.

In terms of technology, both cars have an abundance of features. The Corolla has a standard 8-inch touchscreen display that makes it very easy to connect to all your tech. You will have access to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a bevy of Toyota's Connected Services, such as Safety Connect and Wi-Fi Connect. A Sirius XM 3-month Platinum Plan trial subscription is standard, and your audio experience can be elevated through the available 800-watt JBL, 8-speaker system.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. While it has some options, such as a Bose stereo system and wireless connectivity, it lacks the many other tech features the Corolla Hatchback has.

Safety Features

Toyota is continually proving it’s no slouch in the safety department, and it is no different with the latest Corolla. You can expect to find the following safety features in the Corolla Hatchback:

  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Radar Badge and In-Vehicle Camera
  • Hill Start Assist Control

In addition, the car comes with both Star Safety System and Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.0. Included in TSS are Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, while Star Safety System features Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control and Road Sign Assist.

The Honda Civic’s safety features are notably less, with the standard Honda Sensing suite having only a couple of systems to assist in pre-collision and road departure situations.

Which One Is Right for Me?

Picking a new car when the competition is fierce makes for a tough call, but if you take a look over our comparison you can see that the 2022 Corolla Hatchback offers more in terms of style, comfort, convenience, tech, and safety than the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. Reliable, versatile, and efficient, the Corolla Hatchback has everything you will need to make day-to-day driving less of a chore and more fun.
