2022 Toyota Tundra Vs. 2022 Nissan Titan: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Jul 1, 2022 9:00 AM

Full size pickup trucks are often the go-to vehicle for utility, particularly when the need for hauling cargo or some kind of trailer arises. For that reason, trucks should have an abundance of useful features that not only make them the perfect choice for all your needs, but also have reliable performance specs, safety components, and an interior that offers both comfort and convenience. For someone looking for the ideal pickup truck for 2022, there are two options that stand out from all the rest: The 2022 Toyota Tundra and the 2022 Nissan Titan. To help you decide which of these is the better choice for you, and to prove once and for all that the Toyota Tundra reigns supreme in this category, we have written up a quick, thorough comparison list of these two top competitors.

Rugged, Upgraded, and Ready to Work

For 2022, the third generation Tundra has received a redesign – the first in 15 years, in fact. Toyota’s commitment to delivering a vehicle capable of handling pretty much anything shone through with this redesign as the truck has received numerous new features and upgrades, such as the fact that it now comes with two engine choices: A standard V6 or a hybrid V6. The redesigned Tundra has a focus on fuel economy, but this has not reflected on the workhorse nature of this truck, as it can still tow up to 12,000 pounds (lbs.) via its hybrid engine. Even better, the 2022 Tundra also comes with state-of-the-art towing technology to make driving while towing much easier:

  • High definition rear and side cameras (standard on Platinum trim)
  • Two tow/haul modes
  • Trailer back guidance system

To compare, the 2022 Nissan Titan does have a V8 engine, but unfortunately, that is the only option it has. Anybody looking for a fuel efficient truck will likely want to look elsewhere. The Titan also has standard four-wheel drive (FWD), whereas the Tundra offers both two-wheel drive (2WD) and 4WD. Perhaps most disappointing is the fact that even when equipped with a powerful V8 engine, the Nissan Titan comes in below the Toyota Tundra in the towing department, with a capability of only 10,880 lbs.

Off-Roading Prowess

Anyone looking for a vehicle that can tackle a bit of off-roading will be intrigued by the 2022 Toyota Tundra’s TRD Pro trim level, which comes standard with the i-Force Max 3.5L twin-turbo hybrid engine. There are a number of off-roading features to appreciate with this trim, including the TRD front anti-roll bar, the TRD-tune springs that deliver an extra 1.1-inch of additional ground clearance, the Multi-Terrain Select mode, and the aluminum front skid plate – and that’s just to name a few!

Interior Design, Comfort, and Features

The effects of the 2022’s Toyota Tundra’s redesign can be seen everywhere, including the new and massive front grille. The sides of the truck now feature eye-catching fender flares along with windshield pillars that are blacked out. Even the taillights have been redesigned and now have a striking and effective C-shape. The tailgate is made of lightweight materials and can be opened either by the key fob or by a “secret” taillight button (on higher trims) that is very useful when your hands are full.

The interior has just as much to look forward to, including premium soft-touch materials used throughout. A panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, digital instrumentation, and rear sunshade are all available options, letting you add a fair bit of luxury to your truck.

The 2022 Nissan Titan did not undergo any significant changes to the exterior or interior this year. It does have a modern looking interior design with sleek, contrast stitched materials. However, the exterior is the same as it was last year, looking exactly the same without any real standout definition to differentiate it from other pickup trucks.

Which One Is Right for Me?

While both of these 2022 trucks are great choices for a reliable, highly functional pickup truck, the 2022 Toyota Tundra stands out. The hybrid engine choice, along with the greater towing potential, the option of 2WD or 4WD, and the redesigned exterior and interior make the Tundra the best choice. Not only can you save money on fuel, you can still effectively tow while doing so, and the rest of the Tundra’s facelift makes it a comfortable and capable ride.
