Silver 2022 Toyota Venza vs. Blue 2022 Subaru Forester

2022 Toyota Venza Vs. 2022 Subaru Forester: Which One Is Right for Me?

Posted at Fri, Feb 18, 2022 9:00 AM

The sheer amount of options available in the mid-size SUV category is pretty impressive, but with so many vehicles available it can be tough to nail down one that has everything you need. To help you out with such a tough decision, our Westbury Toyota staff have written up a short but thorough comparison guide between two of the most anticipated 2022 mid-size SUVs: The 2022 Toyota Venza and the 2022 Subaru Forester.

Interior and Exterior Design

While both of these vehicles look sharp and have undeniable presence on the roads, the Toyota Venza has undergone some changes that not only set it apart from previous iterations, but from others in its class as well. New for the 2022 version are:

  • Full leatherette upholstery on the seats (standard on the XLE trim)
  • Rear seat belt force limiters and pretensioners on all trims
  • LED fog lights on the Limited trim.

As Alex Leanse of MotorTrend puts it, the 2022 Venza is turning heads and redefining luxury. The newest version of the Venza brings a seamless blend of urbane design and in-demand features that make it feel incredibly premium. The suave atmosphere of the Venza is augmented a great deal by a cabin made of soft-touch materials, the large infotainment display that packs an impressive amount of technology, and plenty of room for passenger comfort.

The 2022 Subaru Forester, on the other hand, does not offer much in the way of change. The exterior, while sharp, lacks the sleek sophistication of the Venza, and the interior falls far short in comparison to the luxury offered by the Venza.

One key feature of the Venza’s cabin is the Star Gaze roof. The glass roof is highly desired due to the airy, expansive feel it gives the cabin, but the best part about the Star Gaze roof is that it is electrochromic. This means that by toggling a button, you can swap it from opaque to transparent. It also has a physical fabric cover that can be used to block out the light. The Star Gaze roof is unfortunately unavailable in the Subaru Forester.

Power and Performance

As with most newer Toyota Vehicles, the 2022 Venza comes with a hybrid powertrain. The main benefit of this is obvious: Impressive fuel economy, coming in at 40 miles per gallon (mpg) city driving, 37 mpg on the highway, and 39 mpg combined. The hybrid All-Wheel Drive (AWD) powertrain combines the 2.5 liter (L) 4-cylinder engine with two other electric motors, one of which is at the front and one on the rear axle. All together, these engines will give 219 horsepower (hp) and 163 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. All of this is managed by an automatic CVT transmission.

In comparison, the 2022 Forester has a 2.5 L engine capable of 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. In addition to a lack of power, you will also be getting less impressive mileage than that of the Venza, as the Forester comes in at 26 mpg city / 33 mpg hwy / 29 mpg combined. AWD, which is standard across all Venza trims, is not standard in the 2022 Forester.

Which One Is Right for Me?

Between these two options, it will be a tough choice. However, when you consider everything the 2022 Toyota Venza offers in terms of luxury, comfort, power, and fuel economy that the 2022 Subaru Forester does not, it becomes quite easy to see which is the better choice.
