There’s definitely something for everyone, so go ahead and join us as we dig into everything that Long Island has to offer to local residents this Memorial Day Weekend!
Put on by Freeport Water Taxi & Tours, you’ll be able to ride a water taxi boat as close to the Jones Beach Water Tower as possible. The tower is a central point of all the air show demonstrations, so you’ll be able to see the Air Force’s Thunderbirds and the Navy’s Blue Angels perform their breathtaking precision flying routines from a VIP perspective. The airshow cruises are available from May 26th to May 27th and run from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Decoration Day, which takes place at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, lets you see and experience Memorial Day as it was in the 1870s. In addition to a parade, there will be ceremonies and demonstrations involving historic crafts. A brass band concert will also take place. Decoration Day offers up a solemn, respectful glimpse into the lives of past soldiers, as well as honoring those who currently serve the country. This event takes place on May 26th and runs from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
On May 27th, grab your family and friends and head to Ronkonkoma. This hamlet’s street fair honors all of America’s veterans and benefits local organizations that provide service and support for them. There will be a plethora of vendors selling all kinds of things, so make sure you’re ready to shop until you drop! Ronkonkoma will also have a Memorial Day parade for your viewing pleasure on May 28th.
Taking place on Memorial Day in Mount Sinai, the Parade of Flags is a patriotic event where you can come to see all the flags that represent America: National, state, local, and territory. As you walk through the flags you can stop to read fascinating bits of American history. Additionally, there will be a guided tour and the event will conclude with the retirement of the flags (if weather permits).
The Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay is putting on a historical parade on Memorial Day. The parade starts at 11:30 A.M. and is followed by festivities that include free ice cream, popcorn, and lemonade. There will be old-timey games for kids to participate in and musicians performing music that is sure to transport you back to the historic time period that will be on display during this exciting event.
Starting at 9:30 A.M. on Memorial Day, this parade will lead to a commemoration ceremony to honor all of America’s veterans. All veterans are welcome to take part in the parade and rides will be provided for those who can’t walk. The parade will take place rain or shine and, best of all, there’s no price for admission. Anyone who wishes to participate in the parade is asked to assemble at 8:45 A.M. at the Broadcast Plaza.
