Five Upcoming Outdoor Movie Nights Around Long Island

Posted at Fri, Jul 26, 2019 3:30 PM

With autumn looming on the horizon, Long Islanders are looking for ways to make the remaining summer nights as enjoyable and memorable as possible. To that end, we here at Westbury Toyota are proposing a great way to appreciate what’s left of summer: Outdoor movie nights. As it turns out, there are outdoor movie nights scheduled all over Long Island the next few weeks, so all you need to do is find the one that you can fit into your busy schedule. To help you out, we’ve gone over five of these upcoming outdoor movie showings below to give you all the information you need.

A Twist on the Superhero Movie - “Megamind"

If you’re getting tired of traditional superhero movies, “Megamind” is a fun and entertaining twist on that formula. This animated movie is great for adults and kids alike. The outdoor evening screening of “Megamind” takes place on July 30th at 8:30 P.M. in scenic North Woodmere Park in Nassau County. If you want to arrive a little early, you can spend some time appreciating the idyllic waterfront scenery or even make a day out of it by enjoying some golf and the Olympic size pool.

An Epic, Action Packed Robot Adventure - “Bumblebee”

A soft reboot of the Transformers franchise, “Bumblebee” offers just what you’d expect: A lot of battle scenes, transforming robots, and explosions. However, it also offers a surprisingly heartwarming story of a young girl who develops an unshakeable bond with a wounded warrior from another planet. This movie is suitable for families or for adults, and you can catch it at sunset on Thursday, August 1st at the Jones Beach Bandshell. There’s plenty to do in the area, so why not make plans for the entire day by hiking the Jones Beach Boardwalk before capping off the night by watching “Bumblebee?”

Dragons of All Sizes and Shapes - “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"

The final instalment of the “How to Train Your Dragon” series, this movie brings about a more than satisfactory conclusion to the wonderful story of Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless. Beloved by adults and kids alike, “How to Train Your Dragon” is a great movie date for you and the kids or your any other friends and family. You can catch this flick on Friday, August 9th, 8:15 P.M. as part of the Mt. Sinai Heritage Movies in the Moonlight program. The film takes place at Heritage Park, so be sure to bring a blanket or chair and some money to grab refreshments from the concession!

An Unforgettable Coming of Age Love Story - “Dirty Dancing”

This outdoor movie is definitely more appropriate for teens or adults and is rated PG-13. “Dirty Dancing” is one of the most popular romance movies of all time and still holds up after all these years! If you’re in the mood to watch Patrick Swayze in one of his greatest hit movies, head on over to the restaurant Prime in Huntington to watch the movie on the Cabana Bar Lawn on August 19th. Showtime starts at 8:30 P.M. and popcorn is complimentary. Make a night out of it by eating an incredible dinner at Prime as a pre-movie date!

A Timeless Ghostly Adventure - “Ghostbusters” (1984)

“Ghostbusters” is one of the most memorable film series to come out of the 80s, and to pay homage to that, Port Washington Cinema on the Bay is airing this original classic on August 3rd at 8:30 P.M. in Sunset Park. Admission is free, so all you need to bring are some chairs or some blankets, as well as your snacks of choice. Check out the website for more details. There’s plenty to do at Sunset Park if you’d like to kill some time beforehand, including some great and unique dining experiences, so bring your appetite!

Make the Most of Your Long Island Summer Evenings

As you can see, there are plenty of movies scheduled for outdoor viewing across Long Island, and what we’ve listed here are just a few! If you like the idea of watching a movie while sprawled on a blanket in the grass, choose the movie you most want to see and mark the date. There are plenty of great daytime activities you can partake in at most of these locations, so why not turn your excursion into an all-day occasion that everyone can enjoy?
