The Toyota Supra Claims Even More Awards in the Performance Vehicle Segment

The Toyota Supra has been turning heads – and accumulating accolades – for a while now, but it’s not done yet. This performance car was recently honored with two more awards at a Texas Auto Writers Association’s (TAWA) event, the Auto Roundup. The Supra took home the highest honors in the performance coupe category and not only that, was also named the Performance Vehicle of Texas. This latest accomplishment for the Supra is one that we here at Westbury Toyota are very enthusiastic about, and we have gone into greater detail about it here.

A Little TAWA Background

TAWA is a nonprofit association based in Texas meant for automotive journalists. It promotes the highest quality and professionalism in journalism and has done so for more than twenty years. TAWA is now one of the most reputable and authoritative associations for automotive journalism here in the United States. Every year, TAWA hosts two large events: Texas Truck Rodeo and Texas Auto Roundup. These events let TAWA members gather together in one place to see and experience vehicles from a wide range of automakers.

2021 TAWA Auto Roundup

For this year’s Auto Roundup, which took place at the Texas Motor Speedway, 40 journalists gathered together and evaluated 35 vehicles. Vehicles from some of the world’s top automotive manufacturers were put through their paces on the track and they were individually evaluated in different categories including:

  • Performance
  • Value
  • Exterior
  • Interior
  • Personal appeal

The Supra was evaluated by all the attendees of the roundup and the conclusion was reached by all that its performance capabilities together with its stability control and power steering lend it incredible potential when it comes to tight cornering and lightning-quick adjustments.

Well-Deserved Praise

Among the many things the Supra was lauded for include its mighty 3.0 liter (L) inline 6-cylinder engine, which is capable of spitting out 382 horsepower (hp). Also noted was the fact that there has also been a 4-cylinder model added that has a turbocharged 2.0 L I-4 engine that puts out 255 hp. The 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 Premium has an 8-speed automatic transmission (complete with paddle shifters) paired to a modified engine that has the ability to go from zero to 60 miles per hour (mph) in only 3.9 seconds. What wowed most of the evaluators of the Auto Roundup was the Supra’s ability to achieve and maintain high speeds while still being easy and safe to handle.

Performance was not the only thing the TAWA evaluators loved about the Supra, however. Also noteworthy was the sleek, distinctive exterior shape and the way it is perfectly accented by the 19-inch, 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels, which come with Michelin Pilot super sport tires. The interior garnered just as much praise, coming standard as it does with things like an 8.8-inch display. Also appreciated were the 12 speaker JBL audio system and the very comfortable leather-trimmed sport seats.

The Supra got top marks in the safety category too, as its new safety package features dynamic radar cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.

An Incredible Performance Vehicle

Coming out of the 2021 TAWA Auto Roundup with the highest honors is yet another notch in the belt for the Supra, a car that seems destined to keep rising to the top. The journalists of TAWA loved what they saw and experienced and as part of the Toyota family, we obviously want others to know just what a fantastic vehicle the 2021 Supra is.
