The holidays are fast approaching, which means it’s time to start planning how you, your friends, and your family are going to celebrate. There’s no shortage of seasonal activities to check out here in Westbury and if you don’t mind a little travel time, there’s plenty going on across the rest of Long Island, too. At Westbury Toyota, we’re just as excited about the holidays as you are, and that’s why we’ve put together a list of Christmas events that everyone can look forward to. Why not make your December full of festive fun by checking out what’s going on in and around the community?

Tree Lighting Ceremonies

Nothing really kicks off the Christmas season like a tree lighting ceremony. One of our very own ceremonies here in Westbury takes place on Saturday, December 2nd at the Village Recreation Center. If you and your family would like to enjoy an afternoon packed full of festive fun, make sure to check it out! There will be refreshments, live musical performances, and a visit from Santa for all the kids!

The Life Lutheran Church in Old Westbury is putting on another tree lighting ceremony and festival on December 2nd as well. In addition to a Christmas music extravaganza, you can try some of the hot food available like pretzels, hot dogs, and soups, as well as cotton candy, spiced lattes, and numerous baked goods. The Life Lutheran Church’s 80-foot tree will be adorned in more than 8,000 festive lights and will be lit at 5:30 p.m.

If that wasn't enough, December 2nd is also the date that the Islip Chamber of Commerce will be having its annual holiday parade, along with a tree lighting ceremony. The parade starts at Ocean Avenue and ends at the Town Hall where the tree will be lit. Revelers can cap off the evening with free hot chocolate and cookies, live music, and a visit from the big guy in red!

Drives and Trolley Rides

If you, your friends, or your family enjoy the beauty of Christmas lights, hop into a car and drive on out to Jones Beach State Park to appreciate the Magic of Lights. A light show that extends for two and a half miles, you and your passengers can see some enchanting holiday digital animations and lit up displays. Afterward, you can wrap up the drive by visiting the holiday village, where you can try out a hay maze, have your pictures taken with Santa, and eat some delicious s’mores. The Magic of Lights runs from November 17th to December 31st.

If you like the idea of taking a cheerful holiday trolley ride, why not head to Riverhead where you can get on the Polar Express Trolley? Open from November 24th to December 23rd, this ride will take you to the “North Pole,” where you can disembark to pay Santa a visit (and also see his elves). Santa will give all children who attend a present, pictures are encouraged, and there are free refreshments for everyone to enjoy!

Kicking Off the New Year

There’s no better way to end the holiday season than by celebrating the coming of the New Year. If you’re looking to make plans for the end of 2017, why not check out Fishes & Wishes at the Long Island Aquarium? This child-friendly New Year’s Eve bash includes a buffet dinner, a “Meet and Greet” with one of the aquarium’s resident penguins, a cocktail hour for older guests, a DJ and dancing, and fun crafts for the kids. This is a great way to ring in the New Year as a family or with a group of friends.

If you’d like to bring in 2018 with elegance and class, why not check out the Fox Hollow Gala? Start off the evening with an extended cocktail hour, followed by an extravagant dinner and dessert reception. There will be a premium bar open all night long, as well as live music and dancing that that will last as long as the party does. For anyone looking to say goodbye to 2017 in style, the Fox Hollow Gala is the place to be.
